Leader with self reflection needed!

Companies nowadays search for leaders and talents. But how to actually define who is a leader who has the talent? Right Direction Consulting aims to help to find the right definition in cooperation with clients and I have to admit that each company has a slightly different definition.

Generally, I can say that leaders and talents have a hard life. Undefined expectations can break their neck very quickly. And believe me, it is not a unique phenomenon! :(

In recent months, the company SearchForce conducted a survey among nearly 500 Czech managers of medium and large companies with a turnover above 300 mil. CZK per year and identified the ten most common reasons why managers fail. I was quite attracted by the summary. What do you think about it?

1. Inability to inspire and motivate subordinates (zero charisma, white-collar type).

2. Deficits in communication with subordinates (no feedback, keeping information in order to have bigger power).

3. Lack of ability to take responsibility for their own mistakes (excuse the circumstances).

4. Lack of self-reflection (ignorance of his limits).

5. Inability to delegate (wants to have everything under control).

6. Inability to effectively solve their own and foreign conflicts (acts either passive or aggressive).

7. Lack of emotional intelligence (not empathetic, doesn't understand problems of subordinates).

8. Non-endurance (whenever there is trouble, he gives up).

9. Too authoritarian approach to management (manages the company as General of the Army).

10. Inability to listen to the others (or does not care about the opinions of others, and therefore makes mistakes).

There is no little that leader must do. But you can develop a lot, you just have to have willingness. And you do need a good dose of self-reflection. Personally, I see self-reflection as one of the greatest shortcomings in the management sphere. If only the pharma giants have finally invented a pill that supports self-reflection. It would be better for employees, engagement would grow, managers would like to develop, all the results would be improved, share prices should rise, and everyone would enjoy.

Back to the reality of everyday life.

Do you worry you not to fall into one of the box of failure? Are you one of those who does not need a pill and can sometimes think about himself? CONGRATULATIONS !!!!! You are unique in its kind! I'm happy you still exists and despite the singularity you are not the kind to extinction. :)

Be the kind of leader, that you would follow. Be yourself, do maximum and develop yourself.

I help my clients in business. Frequent topics are communication, decision making, delegation and motivation. But it is true that being a good leader is a complex system that can not be simply divided into single elements. And I would say that as the environment changes, demands change and leader must also change. Their development is therefore "Never Ending Story".

P.S. It might be worth to reflect where the self reflection disappeared from our lives. Can you think of anything? Share your opinion in the comments and receive coaching session for free!
